Inside St.Margaret's church itself, in front of the altar, lies a black slab marking the burial place of The Reverend Thomas Pelling [48] Vicar from 1698 to 1732. He was a relatively wealthy, well-bred, man who organised the parish well. Pelling was educated at Christ Church College Cambridge, receiving an M.A. in 1696, two years before becoming vicar in Rottingdean.
According to 'Highways and Byways in Sussex' he was 'The first person who introduced Mangul Wurzel in England'.
