Robert Lang [28] was originally the Deputy Headmaster of St Aubyn’s Preparatory School [view] when it was established by Charles Stanford in 1895. He became Headmaster himself in 1919 until 1940 when he sold a financial interest to his successor Hampton Gervis.

A school on the St. Aubyn's site was originally established by Rev. Thomas Hooker (memorial [50]) in the 19th century. It became Rottingdean School in 1887 but this later moved to another site in the village - leaving the site vacant for Charles Stanford.

There is also a plaque in memory of Robert Lang inside the church on the south wall (pictured below).
